The Benefits of Krill Oil

Cannabidiol is not the only beneficial ingredient in CannabaDoggo products. Our products contain Krill Oil which provide your pet with omega-3 fatty acids and beneficial antioxidants. The effects of Krill Oil have been largely studied in humans and animals, including dogs. Both omega-3s and an antioxidant, astaxanthin, are highly beneficial in canines making Krill Oil a great choice to combine with CBD in CannabaDoggo products. Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Krill is considered to be a superior source of omega-3 fatty acids over other marine sources. Krill Oil is more biologically functional in the body, is sustainable, and not only contains omega-3 fatty acids but also significant amounts of antioxidants and vitamins. The majority of fatty acids in Krill Oil occur in the phospholipid form, whereas fatty acids in fish oil occur in the triglyceride form. Omega-3 fatty acids that are incorporated into triglycerides need more digestestion in order to promote absorption into the body, making these fatty acids less biologically available. Human studies have found that fatty acid uptake is greater when subjects were given krill oil when compared to subjects given fish oil (Ulven et al. 2011). A common side effect of taking an omega-3 supplement is a fishy after taste. Because krill oil is incorporated into phospholipids, they are more polar allowing the oil to distribute into stomach fluids. The less polar fish oil in triglyceride form is less polar so these oils sit on top of stomach fluids resulting in an unpleasant fishy taste.

Krill Biomass

Krill is the most sustainable source for omega-3 fatty acids because krill is the largest biomass in the world and is also very well regulated. Less than one percent of the total estimated krill biomass is harvested annually ensuring a minimized risk of environmental effects. The Commision for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) has established strict international precautionary catch limit regulations are review these regulations often to assure that krill harvesting in sustainable. Krill oil is the best supplement of omega-3s because it also provides the powerful antioxidant, astaxanthin. This naturally occurring antioxidant improves bodily functions and provides protective effects to prevent disease.

Astaxanthin

Astaxanthin is bound to phospholipids in krill oil and has powerful antioxidant properties. An antioxidant is an important compound produced by the body but can also be acquired through food and supplements. Antioxidants defend your cells from harmful molecules called free radicals. Free radicals can accumulate resulting in oxidative stress causing damage to cells. The positive effects of astaxanthin have been extensively studied in dogs. Chew et al. (2011), found that dogs that were fed a diet with 40 mg astaxanthin a day exhibited a heightened cell-mediated and humoral response and had reduced DNA damage and inflammation. Antioxidative effects were proven to be caused by astaxanthin supplementation in both healthy and obese dogs (Murai et al. 2009). The results of this study also showed improved hepatic function due to astaxanthin. Free radicals in the body can cause a myriad of health problems and diseases. Astaxanthin supplementation using krill oil can increase immune response, reduce inflammation, and prevent cell and DNA damage.

Krill Oil and Hemp Extract

Krill oil is a tremendously beneficial addition to any diet whether it is for canines, felines or humans. The combination of benefits derived from the omega-3 fatty acids and astaxanthin are not replicable in other fish oil sources. This is why we have chosen to combine the benefits of krill oil and hemp extract that contains beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes. Krill Out is a product rich in wellness promoting natural molecules that have been selected based on research and evidence. Thank you for reading Krill Oil: A Sustainable Source of Omega-3s.
